Brother Jerry Dean Walker, a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on March 3, 1967, to his devoted mother, Gladys Kelly (Douglas), and the late Willie T. Edwards. Jerry was lovingly raised by his mother and his honorary father, Douglas Kelly, who helped shape the man we all came to know and cherish.
To know Jerry was to love him. He had a heart of pure gold and a spirit that was always ready to lend a helping hand. Jerry never met a stranger, his kindness, generosity, and willingness to support anyone in need made a lasting impact on countless lives. On October 12, 2025, Jerry peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal home, surrounded by the love and memories he created. Jerry lived his life with joy and purpose, embracing every moment with laughter and love. His vibrant personality could light up any room, his jokes, infectious smile, and warm presence brought comfort and happiness to everyone around him. Family meant everything to Jerry. He adored his children and grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend quality time with them and those he loved most.
In his younger years, Jerry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend White, a decision that shaped his heart and guided his walk through life. A hardworking and dedicated man, Jerry served his community faithfully. He was employed with the Richland Parish Detention Center and the Rayville Police Department, where he retired after years of service. Even in retirement, Jerry continued to give back, often volunteering his time to assist with funeral services, a reflection of his caring nature and commitment to others. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Willie T. Edwards; his aunts Dorthea Walker, Maxine Walker, Lucille Walker, and Gloria Hendrix; and his uncle Lionel Walker.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Cherishing his memory are his beloved children: daughters La’Jerrica Walker and Angelica Walker (“Babygirl”) (Jashmin) of Overland Park, KS; sons Timothy Toney (Antria) of Lafayette, LA, Jamari Walker (Tavia) of Monroe, LA, and Jerry D. Walker Jr. of Overland Park, KS. His joy and pride also live on through his six grandchildren: A ’Jazlynn Jackson, McKenzie and Maddison Jackson of Overland Park, KS; Timmia and Timberli Toney of Lafayette, LA; and little Jamir Walker of Monroe, LA.
He is also remembered with love by his ex-wife and friend, Felicia Taylor; his special friend of eight years, Bathsheba Gibson, and her son, Donvon Spivey.
